How to Offend Multiple Groups at Once

So not for the first time I’ve stumbled upon material that makes me stop and think ‘right, this needs to be challenged’. It actually already has been challenged, but I wanted to put my own spin on it. I would contact the author of the site that originally critiqued what I am about to talk about, but there is no obvious way to contact them. If you are the author, then please let me know, and may I say that you do an excellent job!

As fair warning, this article will deal with – racism, bigotry, sexism and abortion. When I say it covers a range of topics, I wasn’t lying.

I have to say I don’t know who Matt Forney is. He apparently has his own site (mattforney.com) but I am yet to check it out. Judging from this page’s take on what he’s said elsewhere on the web, he is a misogynist, he is racist, he is homophobic and transphobic as well.

Given he is (or has been) associated with the ‘masculine’ site Return of Kings, this does not come as a major surprise. As a matter of fact, if you check out mattforney.com (I’m not offering that site or Return of Kings a direct link), you’ll see it is indeed a major proponent of all kinds of discriminatory ideals. In a way, those sites are the antithesis of the Coalition.

So it makes sense to pick them apart, but where to begin?!

From the Return of Kings About page (not written by Matt Forney):

A woman’s value significantly depends on her fertility and beauty. A man’s value significantly depends on his resources, intellect, and character.

That’s not a joke. The site promotes the idea that women are basically objects that exist to churn out babies.

Elimination of traditional sex roles and the promotion of unlimited mating choice in women unleashes their promiscuity and other negative behaviors that block family formation.

The site’s way of basically saying ‘women should have no say in who they ‘mate’ with, and that we’ll gladly promote a double standard.

On the Contact page, women are expected to submit a photo of themselves before being allowed to contact the site!

One of the site’s most popular articles manages to tie misogyny and racism together, as it attempts to justify why people of colour shouldn’t win beauty pageants.

There’s tons of material here that needs challenging, and part of me is keen to rally the Coalition en masse, but there are pitfalls to that. Any emails or comments that any of us make directly to Return of Kings or Matt Forney will end up outside of our control. We might end up creating a headache for ourselves. On the other hand, I hate seeing stuff like this going unchallenged.

Stay tuned for a lot more on this!

  1. Its not going unchallenged! Have you ever visited the website We Hunted the Mammoth? The title of it was specifically created to parody one of the talking points on Return of Kings website. The purpose of WHTM is to track and challenge the garbage being spewed on websites like that one. From WHTM you can access many other sites that do the same. Its run by David Futrelle. Please visit, and the comments are heavily moderated to prevent abuse of any kind.

      1. If you listen to Return of Kings, yeah they do, but I know from personal experience that Mammotheers (which is what the commentors call themselves) don’t.

In fact you’re probably likely to come across cute pictures of meerkats during some of the calm down moments, (mental palette cleansers) which, if you read that site regularly, you are going to need.

      1. What did Henry VIII once say? “Once more into the breach!” or some shit. I don’t mind being a spy. Sounds like fun.

      2. I am not sure I will be able to, on second thoughts. I actually think I’ve been in a twitter debate with one of the “Kings” for the past two weeks. Kicking arse, of course, but that might blow my cover. On the bright side, SO MUCH SHIT TO WRITE ABOUT. Some of it has actually made me laugh out loud. I can try. I might use a different name. Which one did I have to apply for? And how do I even apply?

      3. I can definitely understand that!! I hate giving people who are undeserving of the traffic traffic. If that makes any sense!
