Accountability

Accountability is something the conservative right (particularly in US Republican circles) don’t like. They despise being held accountable for their choices and actions. They believe their behaviour shouldn’t carry consequences, or that the consequences they face for their decisions are unfair. Jill Dennison has once again broken this down in an excellent post regarding the 6th of January 2021 attempted insurrection by brain-washed Trumpers at the Capitol Building. It goes without saying that the people who chose to use to violence to try and overturn a legitimate election result, and the Republicans who have done everything to stall the investigation into the coup attempt, do not respect democracy. You have to be particularly stupid to buy into Trump’s rhetoric, and that level of stupidity, combined with a misplaced sense of righteousness, seems to be the direction of the US political right at this point.
